Ah Portugal , it's been on my bucket list for a while and I was thrilled when Getaway asked me to cruise along the mighty Douro with Scenic and show off this sun-drenched slice of paradise. With its terraced vineyards, gorgeous gardens, impressive palaces and lovely locals, this was a trip I was excited about. Watch the videos above.

Our starting point was Porto, the 2nd largest city after Lisbon. A university town with a youthful vibe filled with historic buildings, ancient treasures and a great place to taste test what I'm declaring is my new favourite breakfast - pasteis de nata, or Portuguese tarts as we know them. An espresso and two tarts with a sprinkling of cinnamon is the perfect start to any (and maybe every) day.

Before heading off on Scenic Azure there was free time to explore the city as well as several Scenic Freechoice tours to pick from - I opted for the suspension bridge at Arouca. On completion in 2021, it was the world's largest suspension bridge and is one of the most significant structures in Portugal. Another must see in this area is the Paiva Walkways - 8kms of wooden walkways designed to immerse visitors in the beautiful landscape.

Boarding Scenic Azure and cruising the Douro was a dream. With just 48 suites it's an intimate and luxurious experience. With sun decks, lounges and a vitality pool, it's the perfect way to enjoy the European summer.

Now, I do love myself a fine wine and lucky for me, the Douro Valley is one of the oldest wine regions on .
