Everyone has their own packing tips when it comes to a big trip - whether you swear by packing cubes or you're adamant about rolling not folding. And who would have better travel advice than someone who literally travels for a living? 9Travel caught up with Getaway host Catriona Rowntree to pick her brains on all things planning and packing . The number one thing she always has in her carry-on bag is something you can pick up from the supermarket for $2.

When it comes to packing your luggage, it's worth doing a little research. "Look up the weather as close to when you're leaving as possible, for the location that you are going to." While you may be dreaming of a sunny Hawaiian holiday, you could land to rainy skies and cold temperatures - it's better to be prepared with a couple of jumpers.
Another thing that Catriona swears by is looking up social media posts from people in the location she's visiting. "What are the locals wearing?" For example, if you're heading to Turkey, maybe search the location tag on Instagram for the neighbourhood you're staying in, or restaurants you plan to visit. That way you can be sure that the outfits you've packed are on the same level as the locals.
"You definitely, definitely wanna make sure that you are respectful to the area that you are going to.
