Monday, May 20, 2024 Bristol Community Ferry Boats, one of the city’s oldest ferry services, is trialling a new commuter route from Netham Lock to the City Centre via Temple Meads. This route will connect key points along the River Avon, which forms part of the Kennet and Avon Canal, with Bristol’s Floating Harbour. The trial is scheduled to run from May 18 to May 26, offering a unique transportation option for Bristol residents.
The ferry service will operate with two distinct schedules: This structured approach aims to cater to the needs of daily commuters during the weekdays and leisure travelers over the weekends. Roisin Tobin-Brooke, co-director of Bristol Community Ferry Boats, explained that the trial is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to evaluate and meet community demands. With significant regeneration projects underway along the Feeder Canal, there is an anticipated increase in demand for water transport services along this route.
The goal is to offer residents in areas like St Ann’s, Brislington, and St George a picturesque and tranquil commute to the City Centre, whether for work or leisure. Key Points: Brislington East Councillor Tim Rippington expressed his delight at the launch of the second trial this spring. He noted that the first trial, conducted six months earlier, was well-received despite poor weather conditions, highlighting the pressing need for more public transport options in the area.
The positive response underscores the community’s.
