Brits living in have claimed that British are being singled out by 'anti-British' locals. The couple, originally from Horsham, West Sussex, relocated to Marbella four years ago and said they were welcomed by "very friendly" locals. Recently however, while enjoying breakfast at the upscale restaurant Nobu, their Volvo XC40 - bearing a British plate - was targeted by hooligans who doused it in pink spray paint.
They allege that staff informed them of a similar incident involving a car with a British number plate, leading them to suspect it was an act of "anti British vandalism". The pair, who wish to remain anonymous due to fear of further targeting, say the incident occurred in June 2023, but are only now speaking out as they believe anti-British sentiment is on the rise in the country. Spain is experiencing the repercussions of budget break deals leading large numbers of visitors to descends on certain parts of the country, causing some locals to be priced out of housing.
The unnamed woman stated: "It seems to be that English reg cars are being targeted as part of feeling that there are too many Brits in Spain. I think it's quite sad there is so much building happening now and housing is being sold to tourists but mainly where we are it has been to Russians, not Brits." "I just think it's sad Marbella is a lovely place to live and the Spanish are normally very friendly.
I never expected that someone would do something like this to us just because we're British." The couple, w.
