Thursday, May 30, 2024 Emirates is implementing advanced tools to mitigate extreme turbulence incidents after two recent events on other airlines resulted in one fatality and numerous injuries. Emirates, the world’s largest long-haul airline has joined the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) information-sharing platform, which aids pilots in navigating turbulent areas. Additionally, Emirates is equipping its pilots with the latest version of a mobile navigation system developed by Germany’s Deutsche Lufthansa AG.

Dubai’s flagship carrier plans to install software on 140 aircraft that will automatically share turbulence reports with all airlines contributing to the platform. Emirates stated on Thursday that all new aircraft joining its fleet, including the Airbus SE A350 and Boeing Co. 787 Dreamliner, will be integrated into this system.

The airline industry is currently focusing on how to reduce turbulence incidents following two severe cases last week. A Singapore Airlines flight from London had to make an emergency landing in Bangkok due to a sudden updraft, resulting in one death and numerous injuries. Shortly after, a Qatar Airways plane encountered similar turbulence over Turkey, causing injuries to 12 passengers.
