Thursday, June 20, 2024 Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), a subsidiary of GMR Airports Infrastructure Limited, has unveiled its state-of-the-art Self Service Bag Drop (SSBD) Quick Drop Solution at Delhi Airport, marking a significant milestone as the first facility of its kind in India and the second globally, following Toronto, Canada. This innovative system is set to transform the passenger experience by simplifying the baggage drop process and minimizing wait times. With around 50 Self Service Bag Drop units now active across Terminal 1 and Terminal 3, travelers can look forward to a seamless and efficient check-in procedure.

The traditional SSBD units provide passengers with the option to bypass the check-in counters by utilizing Common Use Self Service kiosks to print their boarding passes and baggage tags. Upon arrival at the SSBD unit, travelers scan their boarding passes or faces via biometric cameras and then proceed to deposit their bags on the conveyor belt, with the entire process typically taking about a minute. In a bid to further streamline the SSBD process, DIAL has introduced the QUICK DROP SOLUTION, a groundbreaking advancement that simplifies the process into a single step.

This eliminates the need for boarding pass or biometric verification, as these details are already encoded on the baggage tag. Consequently, the processing time is reduced from approximately a minute to just 30 seconds, enhancing overall operational efficiency. Speaking on this.
