Tuesday, June 11, 2024 Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has unveiled a major expansion of its advanced digital gateway program, aiming to significantly improve the travel experience for both DigiYatra and non-DigiYatra passengers. The expansion increases the number of terminal entry points (eGates) from 24 to a record 68 at the kerbside/landside, the highest in the country. This enhancement boosts the airport’s processing capacity to an impressive 7,440 passengers per hour at Terminal 2 (T2) and 2,160 at Terminal 1 (T1), tripling its current capacity.
Additionally, the introduction of the digital gateway has reduced wait times at the kerbside to under one minute. The expansion integrates advanced technology with process excellence, big data analytics, and design thinking to provide an unmatched passenger experience. The Digital Gateway now features 28 dedicated DigiYatra e-gates and an equal number for non-DigiYatra passengers at T2, and 6 dedicated gates for each category at T1, significantly enhancing capacity and convenience.
Moreover, an additional 118 e-gates are being added at the Pre-embarkation Security Check (PESC) area at T2 to further streamline passenger flow. DigiYatra passengers can pass through these gates using biometric validation without the need to present their ticket, boarding pass, or ID. This setup utilizes a mix of IoT sensors and biometric face pods linked to the DigiYatra foundation to efficiently direct passengers.
