Tuesday, May 21, 2024 Indochina Rail Tourist Service Joint Stock Company and Wafaifo Optimisers have entered into a management agreement for Wafaifo Optimisers to oversee the Revolution Express steam train, an extraordinary new tourist attraction in central Vietnam, set to launch in late 2024 or early 2025. Two original steam locomotives from the 1960s have been meticulously restored to working condition. These locomotives will pull two retro-styled carriages, each seating up to 57 passengers, along with a custom-made kitchen carriage and a baggage carriage.
These locomotives are the last remaining working steam engines in Vietnam, dating back to the pre-independence era and built locally based on the French Mikado design. Their restoration has been a labor of love over several years, using original parts and the expertise of the last remaining steam engineers from Vietnam Railways. The Revolution Express will operate a daily round trip between Danang city and the former royal capital of Hue.
The journey will traverse the stunning Hai Van coastal mountain range and include a stop at Lang Co, adjacent to a beautiful lagoon and beach. Passengers will be surrounded by old-world splendor and served by staff in period costumes, enjoying light food and drinks while taking in one of the most picturesque coastlines and mountain passes in Southeast Asia. The partnership agreement between Indochina Rail and Wafaifo Optimisers was signed on May 20 in Danang, central Vietnam.
