Tuesday, May 21, 2024 The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) unveiled a captivating new campaign titled “Live Out the Cinematic Hong Kong” on Friday, May 17. This initiative celebrates iconic Hong Kong cinema with the documentary film “Hong Kong Classics Reimagined” and the launch of an online travel guide designed to attract cinephiles and cultural tourists to the city. The film premiered at the renowned “Marché du Film” during the 77th Cannes Film Festival in France, introducing it to a global audience.
Highlighting Hong Kong’s distinctive charm through classic films, “Hong Kong Classics Reimagined” marks the first collaborative effort of six filmmakers—Wing Shya, Man Lim Chung, Kenji Tanigaki, Lawrence Kan, Wong Kwok-keung, and Lemon Liu. This 60-minute film revisits classic Hong Kong cinema across six genres: romance, detective thrillers, martial arts, action, comedy, and drama. Featuring celebrated actors such as Sylvia Chang, Sammo Hung, Gordon Lam, Karen Mok, and the duo Charlene Choi and Gillian Chung from Twins, the film showcases the city’s rich cultural heritage and unique allure.
