Wednesday, June 12, 2024 A bumper half-term holiday week at London Stansted propelled May’s passenger numbers to a record-breaking 2.7 million, marking the busiest May ever for the airport. This monthly total represents a 6.

4% increase compared to May 2023, surpassing the previous record set in May 2019 by 143,000 passengers. London Stansted’s extensive route network and efficient operations facilitated 860,000 passengers during the half-term week alone, with over 98,000 passing through the terminal on 27th May—the busiest day of the year so far—as families jetted off on holiday and overseas visitors arrived. The 12-month rolling total to the end of May reached 28.



8 million passengers, a 9.8% increase from the previous year. Operational performance remained strong in May, with 97% of departing passengers clearing security in 15 minutes or less.

Top destinations for the month included Dublin, Istanbul, and Edinburgh, while Spain, Italy, and Germany were the most popular countries. May also welcomed the return of British Airways with new services to Ibiza, Nice, and Florence, along with the opening of the airport’s first electric vehicle charging forecourt. Additionally, a new multi-year partnership with London Stadium was announced.
