A BELOVED thrill ride is set to close temporarily at Walt Disney World in Florida, upsetting fans who are sad to see it go. Test Track Presented by Chevrolet in Epcot closed on June 17 for refurbishment. The ride, which officially debuted in 1999, allowed Disney guests to create their own virtual car as they waited in the queue.
After this, six passengers are loaded into a "SIM Car" and taken on a high-speed ride around the exterior of the attraction. Riders are taken on a simulated excursion through testing procedures that General Motors uses to evaluate its concept cars . The cars can reach speeds up to 65 mph and guests can check the scoreboard after the ride to see their car's performance.
Once the loop is completed, drivers can choose to download a commercial with them in the car or race through a mini virtual obstacle course. Riders can even snag a take-home photo in front of their imaginary car. Construction Walls were spotted around the attraction, located in the World Discovery section of the park — previously known as Future World, according to local Fox affiliate WOFL .
Fans slammed the park for closing the ride right before peak travel season for many families. "Closing Test Track while also keeping the park's main thrill ride (Cosmic Rewind) under lock and key with a virtual queue system many tourists don't understand is actually insane," wrote one person on X, formerly known as Twitter . "The way I still have never been on Test Track and I really thought they .
