Thursday, June 6, 2024 British Airways has whimsically added Lapland to its destinations, ensuring it’s well-prepared to introduce new flights to the homeland of Santa Claus this winter. Starting on 3 December 2024, new flights will depart twice weekly from London Gatwick to Ivalo, situated in Finland’s most northern region. Ivalo, nestled along the Ivalo River in Lapland within the Arctic Circle, draws global visitors, especially during the winter, to partake in its festive cold-weather activities and Christmas festivities.

Known as the doorway to Saariselkä, a resort village popular for winter sports like skiing, snowmobile safaris, tobogganing, and snowshoeing, it’s a prime location for winter enthusiasts. Visitors eager to personally submit their Christmas lists can meet Santa Claus at the Northern Lights Village in Saariselkä. The secluded setting of Ivalo also offers magnificent views of the northern lights.

The flights will be managed by BA Euroflyer, British Airways’ short-haul branch operating out of the South Terminal at London Gatwick. Passengers are permitted to include ski or snowboard gear in their checked baggage, provided the dimensions do not exceed 190 x 75 x 65 cm. Tom Stoddart , CEO of BA Euroflyer, said: “Our BA Euroflyer network continues to grow, and we are excited for a new addition to our winter schedule, alongside the likes of Innsbruck and Geneva.
