Thursday, May 23, 2024 For the second time this year, Grand Junction Airport celebrated the arrival of a new route operated by Breeze Airways . This latest addition connects Grand Junction and San Francisco, with the inaugural flight landing on Wednesday evening. Airport officials and local leaders welcomed this significant event, marking a new chapter for the airport and the region.
The newly launched route is seasonal, with flights scheduled on Wednesdays and Saturdays. One-way flight fares have made it an affordable travel option. Breeze Airways, a new low-cost airline founded by David Neeleman in 2021, operates this route.
Neeleman is also known for founding JetBlue. Grand Junction Mayor Abe Herman expressed his enthusiasm for the new partnership, emphasizing Breeze’s mission of connecting “nice people to nice places.” He credited the Grand Junction voters for their support in increasing the lodging tax, which has been instrumental in attracting new air services to the airport.
Mesa County Commissioner Cody David highlighted the positive economic impact and increased travel freedom for local residents. He noted that the new route opens up opportunities for both Grand Junction residents and San Francisco visitors to explore and enjoy what each region has to offer. Mayor Herman also spoke about the economic benefits for the city, businesses, and residents.
