Saturday, June 29, 2024 The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the U.S. Department of Transportation declared the allocation of over $123 million to fund projects at 235 airports across 35 states, including the District of Columbia.
According to U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, “Under the Biden-Harris Administration, we continue to enhance the safety, accessibility, and resilience of our aviation system through efforts like the Airport Improvement Program.
The grants we are announcing will aid in the modernization of numerous airports nationwide, addressing both present and future needs of air travelers.” The current distribution of grants under the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) supports diverse projects ranging from constructing and upgrading airport facilities, repairing runways and taxiways, maintaining airfield components like lighting and signage, to acquiring essential equipment for airport operations and maintenance. “This $123 million investment helps airports across the Nation sustain and improve critical infrastructure to advance the safest, most efficient airport system in the world,” said FAA Associate Administrator for Airports Shannetta R.
