Monday, July 8, 2024 Today, American Airlines officially applied to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for permission to launch daily, direct flights between San Antonio International Airport (SAT) and Washington Reagan National Airport (DCA).
This move follows the passage of the 2024 Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reauthorization bill in May, which allocated five new roundtrip flights to DCA. San Antonio, the fastest-growing city in the United States, boasts one of the largest concentrations of military bases nationwide. Despite its size and significance, it remains the largest city in Texas without direct service to DCA, and the largest majority Hispanic city in the U.
S. lacking such connectivity. Conveniently located for visitors to Washington, D.
C., DCA is highly preferred. American’s proposed SAT-DCA service will complement its extensive network, which already includes over 25 daily flights from SAT to seven U.
S. cities. Beyond offering direct access between San Antonio and the nation’s capital, American plans to facilitate seamless connections via DCA to destinations in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Canada.
