Thursday, June 20, 2024 From Thursday, June 27, to Wednesday, July 3, Air New Zealand will offer a special feast to celebrate Matariki 2024 in select lounges. The celebration, themed Matariki Heri Kai – the feast of Matariki, will feature dishes inspired by traditional Māori cuisine available in the Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Queenstown lounges. The special menu will include a variety of culturally inspired dishes, such as roasted sweetcorn chowder, rēwena bread, apple cider pork with cabbage and puha pesto, and charred sweet potatoes with honey.
Additionally, cured salmon on seeded lavosh will be served as a kaimoana (seafood) treat. For those who miss the Matariki menu, Air New Zealand’s new winter lounge menu will still offer a taste of seasonal flavors. This month, the airline refreshed its lounge offerings, including pork belly with spiced plum sauce, roasted kumara, carrots and parsnips with tahini dressing, spiced pumpkin soup, and potato gnocchi with pumpkin crème sauce.
The expanded breakfast line-up features veal sausage, skillet sweet potato hash, and bagels with raspberry jam, cream cheese, and Biscoff spread. Kylie McGillivray-Brown, Air New Zealand’s General Manager of Customer Experience, highlighted that the airline updates its lounge menus every few months to showcase the best seasonal ingredients. “We also take customer feedback into account when reviewing our menus.
For example, our lounge customers told us they wanted more option.
