Thursday, July 4, 2024 Air India, the nation’s premier international carrier, is establishing the largest Flying Training Organisation (FTO) in South Asia at Amravati, Maharashtra, under a project spearheaded by the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC). This development will bolster Air India’s ongoing transformation and expand India’s capacity for pilot training. Scheduled to start operations by the first quarter of FY26, the FTO at Belora Airport in Amravati aims to annually produce 180 commercial pilots.

This facility, being the first of its kind initiated by any Indian airline, will feature 31 single-engine and 3 twin-engine aircraft for instructional purposes. Campbell Wilson, MD & CEO, Air India , said: “The FTO at Amravati will be a significant step towards making Indian aviation more self-reliant and offering more opportunities to the youth in India to fulfill their ambitions of flying as pilots. The young pilots coming out of this FTO will fuel Air India’s ambition of becoming a world-class airline, as it moves ahead in its transformation journey.
