Thursday, May 23, 2024 ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East has released the Air Connectivity Ranking 2023, highlighting a varied recovery pattern with notable improvements despite geopolitical challenges. Developed in collaboration with PwC, the ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East connectivity index adopts a consumer-centric approach, considering consumer choices and connection quality alongside flight frequency, seat capacity, and the number of destinations. This index has been endorsed by the ICAO DGCA Conferences for the Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions in October 2023 and May 2024.

The second edition of the report adheres to globally acclaimed standards, measuring direct and indirect connections as well as connecting experience and quality. The ranking encompasses a sample of 300 airports, representing nearly 93% of the combined passenger traffic in Asia-Pacific and the Middle East. The Middle East has shown promising recovery, with passenger traffic growth of nearly 4% in 2023 compared to 2019, and the region’s air connectivity lagging just 5% below 2019 levels.

In the Asia-Pacific region, the 2023 ranking indicates significant progress towards connectivity recovery, although it remains 13% below 2019 levels. This marks a considerable improvement from the 36% decline observed in 2022 compared to pre-pandemic levels, demonstrating gradual but steady progress. Commenting on the outcome of the study, Mr.
