Wednesday, May 22, 2024 The Airports Council International (ACI) for Asia-Pacific & the Middle East recently unveiled the honorees of the Green Airports Recognition 2024. This accolade spotlights 12 exceptional airports across the regions for their groundbreaking sustainability efforts. This year’s focus was on Biodiversity and Nature-Based Solutions, urging airports to showcase their initiatives in maintaining biodiversity and implementing nature-based strategies.
These efforts range from plantation activities that diminish carbon footprints and offer social advantages, to initiatives aimed at preserving marine ecosystems, rejuvenating wetlands, cultivating in-house horticulture, and managing wildlife to ensure safe airport operations through ecological means. The awards were segmented into three tiers – Platinum, Gold, and Silver – each corresponding to different airport sizes and specific criteria. The awards ceremony took place at the prestigious ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East / ACI World Annual General Assembly, Conference, and Exhibition (WAGA 2024) in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
