Wednesday, May 29, 2024 Three Black men have filed a lawsuit against American Airlines, alleging “blatant and egregious race discrimination” after they and five other Black men were removed from a Phoenix to New York flight in January due to a body odor complaint. The men, Xavier Veal, Emmanuel Jean Joseph, and Alvin Jackson, claim they were ordered off the plane by airline employees without a legitimate explanation. Initially frustrated by the delay, they soon realized that all those removed were Black men, which they believe was discriminatory.
Attorney Michael Kirkpatrick stated the realization “hit them like a ton of bricks.” American Airlines responded, stating it takes such claims seriously and is investigating the matter, emphasizing that the allegations do not align with the airline’s core values of caring for people.
