ROCHESTER — Zumbro Valley Health Center has completed an expansion of its intensive residential treatment program's space in Rochester. It does not increase the number of beds in the program. Rather, it will ensure that all 16 beds can be accessible for clients, said Beth Krehbiel, CEO of Zumbro Valley Health Center.
"Our census was running closer to 14 instead of 16, which is pretty significant," Krehbiel said. The issue, Krehbiel said, was in the building's original layout, which included two double-bed rooms. The project split those two rooms into four single-occupant rooms.
"It's hard to get siblings to share a room, so if you have someone with some very challenging mental health issues, to find a roommate to be in a room, that just was so problematic," Krehbiel said. ADVERTISEMENT The project also involved a 1,200-square-foot addition to the health center's main campus at 343 Wood Lake Drive SE in Rochester. Krehbiel said ZVHC added a living space and two group therapy rooms in the new space.
Previously, "we only had one treatment room," Krehbiel said. "So, just a lot going on in one space. .
.. Now, we have room for meditation and yoga and just some more healing activities.
" A federal grant through the office of U.S. Senator Tina Smith, D-Minnesota, contributed $676,000 toward the expansion project, which was announced in June 2023.
The health center covered the remaining $100,000 in costs. "This was just wonderful," Krehbiel said of the grant. "Great opportunity.
