The Yorkshire coast has some wonderful seaside resorts and many are pretty underrated. We all know Whitby and Scarborough are beautiful and make great locations for a summer getaway. But some of the lesser known places or some that have even acquired somewhat of a bad reputation can equally make fantastic places to visit.

Bridlington was once dubbed the worst seaside town in the region by a Which? poll. But when we asked Yorkshire Live readers recently to vote for their favourite seaside resort in the county, Bridlington came out top. READ MORE: Little-known theme park near Yorkshire without the queues and crowds With 27 per cent of the vote, the seaside resort pulled in more votes (just) than Whitby in the poll.

And if you've been to Bridlington, it's easy to understand why. Our reporter Megan Shaw recently took her son there and said they found it so charming they didn't want to leave. With two beaches which are both fantastic in their own right, there really is something for everyone.

Bridlington South with its swathes of gorgeous golden sand is the place to go for sunbathing, swimming, walking and for snapping those Instagram-worthy photos. And Bridlington North is where all the fun happens, with its funfair rides, pirate ship boat trips and all the fish and chips shops, sweet shops and souvenirs you could need. It also doesn't matter what time of year you take a trip to Bridlington - it's pretty bustling all year round.
