The Village of Hemingford Board of Trustees heard a plea from Keep Alliance Beautiful Director Kathy Worley and John Weare during their June meeting on the 18th. “We would like to better our reputation here in Hemingford and not have the trailers full all the time,” said Worley. “It isn’t through neglect that they’re full, it’s because they’re popular.

” Recycling volume has undeniably increased from Hemingford in 2024 though we have not deemed it necessary to quantify the scope of the trend. However, increased usage of the trailers and a strategy to utilize KAB staff and resources as efficiently as possible has often led to them making trailer trips on alternate days to pick up the trailers located behind the former Hemingford Police Station. Overflow totes have also been put into place but KAB staff just cannot keep up.

“I see people over there every day, all times of the day,” said Village Clerk Barb Straub. “I’m not opposed to using more of that lot.” A few more overflow totes will be added soon, and the Village of Hemingford Crew have offered to assist when the trailers are full by taking the trailer to Alliance to be unloaded.

“We come in at 6 a.m. so it would be something we could do first thing in the morning,” said Hemingford Crew Superintendent Kyle Huss.

“Greater investment in recycling fits the sense of hometown pride evident even to drivers passing through,” said Weare. “Residents strive to maintain a beautiful and inviting comm.
