A woman in her 20s is dead after being shot in the parking lot of Vaughan Mills shopping mall. York Regional Police, in a post on X, said the shooting occurred just before 5:30 p.m.

Tuesday at the mall, in the area of The victim was found with a gunshot wound and paramedics have transported her to a trauma centre in life-threatening condition. Police told the Star the victim was treated for a “significant” period of time before she was pronounced dead at the hospital. Police confirmed to the Star that the woman was shot in the middle of the mall’s south-side parking lot near parking post 6A, but could not name the store outside of which the shooting happened.

Police said two suspects were in custody, but that no charges have been laid as the investigation is ongoing. Const. Kevin Nebrija of York Regional Police spoke to reporters at the scene just after midnight early Tuesday morning.

An employee at the store Laura, located off the south-side parking lot said she didn’t hear the shooting since music was playing and only became aware after first responders arrived. The worker told the Star that the mall and stores were not in lockdown and remained open, but the entrance to the Laura store, as well as to neighbouring shop Aritzia, were cordoned off with police tape. A shopkeeper at another nearby fashion store, about 30 metres from the scene, also said he was unaware of the shooting until police arrived.
