Listen to Story Barbora Krejcikova entered her first Wimbledon final after securing a comeback win over Elena Rybakina at Centre Court on July 11, Thursday. Krejcikova defeated Rybakina 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to set up a clash with Jasmine Paolini in the final on Saturday, July 13. Krejcikova was able to put behind the disappointment of her first round exit in French Open with a determined performance to beat the fourth seed.
Rybakina started things off in fine fashion as she would find no issues with breaking Krejcikova early. Her serves were also on point as she would quickly race to a 4-0 lead as the fans at the centre court wasn't expecting the same drama as the first semi-final between Paolini and Vekic, which went all the way . Krejcikova got a game back to break the winning streak of Rybakina but the former champion ensured she had set the game up to take the first set at 5-1.
Krejcikova would produce a late surge as she was able to break Rybakina, after a few errors from the Kazakhstani star. But Rybakina ensured that she took the first set 6-3 in 42 minutes. The second set was all about Krejcikova as she started to show her fighting spirit as the crowd started to rally behind her and it was Rybakina on the back foot.
The Czech Republic star started by saving a break point and then took a 2-1 lead in the second set. Rybakina was able to level things up but Krejcikova started to get on a roll and won the next three games as errors started to come in to the game of the former ch.
