New Delhi: Stroke remains one of the major health burdens across the world.
In India, stroke is the fourth leading cause of death and the fifth leading cause of disability. According to earlier studies, the incidence of stroke in India ranges between 105 and 152 per 100,000 people each year. As per experts, stroke is a medical condition that results in cell death due to poor blood flow to the brain and can occur anywhere but the incidence rate is higher in bathrooms.
In conversation with News9 , Dr Srinivas Botla , Senior Consultant Neurosurgeon, Yashoda Hospitals Hyderabad shares why the bathroom is a common place where most strokes occur and the driving factors behind it. The bathroom is a common place where strokes can occur due to several factors: 1. Blood pressure fluctuations: Blood pressure can drop suddenly when standing up or changing positions quickly, which can reduce blood flow to the brain and increase stroke risk.
2. Dehydration: Bathing or showering can lead to dehydration, especially in older adults or those with pre-existing medical conditions. Dehydration can contribute to blood clotting and stroke.
3. Slip and fall accidents: Bathroom floors can be slippery, increasing the risk of falls.
