If you have visited the Weedsport Free Library recently, you may have noticed something new! On Friday, June 7, a new circulation desk was installed and has now become a statement piece in our building! Here is the backstory of how this came to be. First, I would like to introduce you to Eileen Cichello. Eileen (O’Toole) Cichello was born on Dec.

11, 1935, in Dublin, Ireland. Her family immigrated to the United States in 1945. She and her siblings went back to Ireland two years later due to her parents’ desire to establish a stronger foundation in the United States.

The children returned to the United States in 1950. The experience back in Ireland greatly influenced the family she and her husband, Sam, raised in Weedsport. Eileen wanted deep roots for her children.

Eileen pursued nursing at SUNY Plattsburgh and graduated, but her true passion was writing. After the birth of her seven children, Eileen returned to writing. She wrote several young adult novels, her favorite being her published book "Father Kanally's Niece.

" This piece of work is a fiction book based loosely on her early teen years spent in Ireland. The book describes Eileen’s mischievous spirit and spunk. Nicole Quinn Eileen was an avid reader, which brought her regularly to the Weedsport Free Library.

This passion led her to a trustee position on the library board. During her time on the board she had a pivotal leadership role in the planning and building of the current Weedsport Free Library’s building.
