Ludhiana: Shiromani Akali Dal ( SAD ) candidate Ranjit Singh Dhillon claimed that voters had sealed the fate of all the candidates , and now they were hoping for the best. The SAD candidate started his day by offering prayers at a gurdwara near his house, followed by exercising his right to vote. Dhillon remained among the voters and his supporters throughout the day to keep them motivated.

Regarding his decision to quit politics if he is defeated, he said, “I had announced this for a reason. If people would not stand by an honest candidate, then what is the point of being honest? It is my test, but it is a test of voters whether they want to go with a capable candidate or still vote for religion, caste and useless issues.” The booths set up by the SAD to help voters locate their polling booths and issue voter slips saw less footfall.

In the afternoon, at some places, the booths wore a deserted look as voters came in thin lines. Disappointment was visible on the faces of the SAD workers. In some areas, even the polling booths were not set up.

However, the SAD candidate, accompanied by senior SAD leaders,was seen boosting the morale of the workers at the booths. Dhillon said, “Due to extreme hot weather, the voter turnout is less, but I am hoping that voters will support me.” Expressing concern over less voting by the young generation, he said, “I had observed less number of youths in the villages during campaigning.
