Looking to teach your children about environmental stewardship or a fun project for the whole family? Volunteers of all ages, parents and their children or avid kayakers and canoers are gathering at 9 a.m. at George George Memorial Park in Clinton Township for a community cleanup project hosted by the Clinton River Watershed Council and state Rep.
Denise Mentzer (D-Mount Clemens). “Michigan’s natural resources are among our greatest assets, and while work has been done at the federal and state level to protect them, we must continue to take action at a local level,” Mentzer said in a news release. “The Clinton River Watershed is Michigan’s most populated watershed and spans 70 communities,” added Mentzer, whose joint venture with the CRWC to help improve local green spaces follows the official opening of a universal canoe and kayak launch at George George Park.
The ongoing cleanup efforts by the Clinton River watershed work to preserve an area that has more than 600 native plants and 84 fish species, and which offers numerous recreational opportunities for fishing, paddling, swimming, biking and hiking. Saturday’s event is one more than 50 events annually organized by CRWC including on-land garbage collection, paddling excursions, water trail clean-ups, and invasive species removal initiatives. These events actively involve watershed residents in the pursuit of improving their watershed’s health.
After checking in at George George Park, volunteers will be depl.
