Shelley Duvall's acting career essentially began at a party in Houston, where she met director Robert Altman. Altman was shooting the film Brewster McCloud , and as legend has it, crew members were taken by Duvall's distinctive appearance and sunny personality. She was asked to be in the film, beginning a fruitful collaborating with Altman.

In Duvall's second film with Altman, McCabe & Mrs. Miller , she plays an unsatisfied mail-order bride. Violet Crown arranged a showing of that film as a tribute following news of Duvall's death on July 11.

It also stars Julie Christie and Warren Beatty. It's rated R and runs two hours. 2 p.
