Kompany had been expected to remain with the Clarets following their relegation from the Premier League but the German giants announced the shock appointment last week. Burnley did not stand in the way of such an opportunity with Bayern giving the club an acceptable compensation fee.

And Kompany took to Instagram to share a video message to fans on Tuesday. 'It starts with a message of thanks, of course. I was very lucky; I was surrounded by hard-working people, players who gave everything,' he said.
