Photo: VSAR Vernon Search and Rescue is sharing water wisdom with residents and visitors alike. The reminder comes after VSAR responded to three different water related rescues in the past week. “In one case our subject did everything right and was well prepared,” reads a VSAR Facebook post .

“A small amount of effort to ensure that they had proper safety equipment as well as reliable communication resulted in a quick and smooth rescue.” With the weather expected to be beautiful this weekend, the group is sharing tips for water safety: Local rivers are flowing fast and have a lot of strainers and hidden hazards. Water in local lakes and rivers is cold, hypothermia is still possible on hot days and useful muscle movement is lost very quickly in cold water.

PFDs/Life jackets save lives. Alcohol and water are a very dangerous combination. VSAR is also reminding people that search and rescue in BC is always free.

“Please do not hesitate to call 911 as soon as you think you need assistance,” reads the Facebook post. “We love what we do and as long as we can respond safely we will come and help. 24/7/365.
