Lucknow: Aligarh girl Sabeera Haris (17), who brought honour to the country and Uttar Pradesh by clinching a bronze medal in women’s trap to open India’s account in the ISSF Junior World Cup in Porpetto, Italy on Friday, aspires to win a gold medal in the 2028 Olympics. Sabeera, a Class 11 student at the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), shot 29 out of 40 targets in the final to finish behind Sofia Gori of Italy who won silver with 39 hits out of the full quota of 50 targets. Carey Garrison of the US won gold, shooting down 40 targets.
Talking to TOI from Italy, Sabeera said: “I am happy to win bronze for my country. This is my first medal in the junior world championship. Seeing the Tricolour fluttering on the soil of Italy was the most beautiful moment of my life.

“My entire family attends shooting competitions. My father Haris-ul-Islam was a national skeet shooter and currently participates in the master's category of skeet shooting events. My mother Subuhi Haris was a state level rifle shooter and elder sister Afiya Haris is also a state level rifle shooter,” Sabeera said.
