Wednesday, June 5, 2024 A crane malfunction at Lucknow Airport caused major flight disruptions, urgently diverting and canceling several flights, including those of IndiGo and Air India. Air travel at Chaudhary Charan Singh (CCS) Airport in Lucknow was significantly disrupted this Tuesday when a crane, vital to the airport’s Terminal 3 expansion project, broke down, exceeding safe height limits and halting flight operations. The crane’s malfunction led to the diversion of nine flights according to Flightradar, affecting several airlines.
The flights redirected included those from IndiGo, SalamAir, flydubai, Air India Express, Flynas, and Saudia, with IndiGo experiencing the most significant impact. As a consequence, six flights were rerouted to Delhi, two to Varanasi, and one to Prayagraj, creating a logistical challenge that prompted the temporary suspension of all departures and arrivals at the facility. The technical team at CCS Airport is urgently addressing the issue to ensure that normal flight operations can resume promptly.
Meanwhile, the airport, in cooperation with airline operators and other stakeholders, has improved the accommodation of passengers by providing additional seating and distributing basic refreshments and water to those affected by the delays..
