What a disgraceful day for the United States Supreme Court (“ US Supreme Court grants Trump substantial immunity from prosecution ”, 2/7). Once upon a time, the Supreme Court ruled with integrity, decency and honoured the rule of law. But this decision, granting partial immunity to the president (in a nod to Citizen Trump) has apparently abandoned these ideals and sets the stage for a future in which all manner of depravity can be allowed.
It also seems to want to further enable and embolden the man who openly vowed to seek retribution and revenge, lies about all manner of things and can’t ever accept responsibility for past wrongs, to continue to believe he is truly capable of doing whatever he wants to whomever he chooses. Trump wanted to be king, and the court has all but given him the crown. Joyce Butcher, Williamstown Grave dangers It is shocking but not surprising that the US Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that presidents are immune from prosecution for official acts.
This will presumably include asking the vice-president to overturn the election results, encouraging your supporters to storm the Capitol, asking election officials to find 12,000 votes and more. America likes to boast it’s the greatest democracy in the world – it is no.
