The boss of TOWIE has opened up about bad-behaviour on set - and the worst examples. Lime Pictures’ Rebecca Kenny-Smith joined Lime Pictures in 2018, and is now Director of Programming (Unscripted). She is responsible for keeping the stars of shows such as Towie , Geordie Shore and Celebs Go Dating in check.
Kenny-Smith said that there were ‘warning systems’ in place to deal with unruly stars. Problems include the cast demanding first-class travel or pay rises during contract negotiations. Asked by TV industry magazine Broadcast how she deals with difficult talent, what the problems were and who were the worst, Kenny-Smith said: “The executives deal directly with the talent but I get brought in when there are issues that need resolving.
If someone has not behaved professionally at work, then we have warning systems. Problems might be as simple as returning talent not wanting to sign their contract because they want an increased fee or start demanding first-class travel. We try to provide a good working environment for people to thrive but it is reality TV and things can get heated.
Returning cast tend to be more problematic than cast members who have just come on board.” Kenny-Smith doesn’t name names on who the unruly talent is. But there have been numerous scandals to hit Towie alone over the years and before she landed the top job.
