Exciting developments from Kashmir! The Chenab Rail Bridge in Reasi district is poised to welcome trains soon. Towering at 359 meters above the Chenab River, it holds the title of the highest rail bridge in the world.
This engineering masterpiece showcases remarkable human ingenuity, overcoming formidable geographical challenges to establish a modern infrastructure landmark. The Northern Railway has announced that the train service from Ramban to Reasi will soon traverse this awe-inspiring bridge. Currently, trains operate on the Kanyakumari to Katra route, including services from Baramulla to Sangaldan in the Kashmir Valley.
Railway officials have recently carried out comprehensive inspections of the new railway line and stations between Sangaldan in Ramban district and Reasi. Here are some captivating details about the bridge: Phase I of the project, covering the 118 km Qazigund-Baramulla section, began in October 2009. Subsequent phases included the opening of the 18 km Banihal-Qazigund section in June 2013 and the 25 km Udhampur-Katra section in July 2014.
