30 years ago (1994) ADVERTISEMENT (Photo) A Nisswa couple and the government are at odds over custody of a crow and how the bird's fate will be decided. Don and Chris Geisler raised the crow from a chick and took it to Garrison Animal Hospital when the 8-week-old bird had a broken leg. There it was confiscated by the DNR and federal officials.
40 years ago (1984) Vandals destroyed the lifeguard stand at Whipple Beach in Baxter, according to the county sheriff's office. The incident, which occurred two nights ago, was caused by someone using a vehicle to either push or pull the stand over. The investigation of the incident continues.
60 years ago (1964) Flashing a sweeping curveball for his top American Legion pitching performance of the year, Fred Larson threw a masterful one-hitter as Brainerd shut down Ironton 4-0 in a sub-district tournament win. Larson helped his own effort with a triple in the fourth, bringing in a run. He then scored on a single by Dick Klein.
