HIDDEN in the south of Ireland is a stunning beach that many describe as the "most beautiful in the world". Coumeenoole Beach in Kerry is famed for its golden sand, clear water and secluded positioning. Located along the Slea Head Drive, the secluded beach has gorgeous views of the Blasket Islands.

With jagged cliffs and strong currents, unfortunately it is not recommended to swim in the water. There are many signs located along the beach warning people not to swim as the bay catches the full force of the Atlantic waves, creating strong and unpredictable currents. It is described as one of the finest stretches of sand in Kerry , located on the Dingle Peninsula.

To find the secluded beach, take the Slea Head Drive and there is a turn off for Coumeenoole. There is parking for around 25 cars at the beach, and it tends to be quite busy during the summer months with locals and tourists. People may recognise the beach as it was the setting for the classic love story of Ryan's Daughter.

Beside the car park you'll find a commemoration stone marking the site, which was erected in 1999, 30 years after the Oscar-winning movie was made. The beach is surrounded by green hills which drop steadily down towards the sand, ending in sheer cliffs with a steep drop down tot the ocean. If you're taking a walk along the cliffs, you are urged to be careful as there are very strong winds.

During high tide the beach is covered, so it's important to check the tide times to ensure you can enjoy the gol.
