Finn first talked about this with in his office as they continued their conversation from the previous episode about and their parents' upcoming nuptials. Hope shared that she is considering being there at her father's big day but wanted to talk to her mother, Brooke, about it first.
Finn responded to his future step-sibling that he has to think about "Steffy's feelings first" and acknowledged it'll be too much for her and she wouldn't be "cool" with it. Then Finn goes on to talk to Deacon, who told him that he wants Finn as his best man. Deacon could sense Finn's hesitation and told him how much it'd mean to Sheila.
Finn brought up Steffy not wanting him to be around Sheila and Deacon. While Deacon understood, he told Finn that he's "the man to make his own decisions." Deacon also tried to reassure Finn that he's not trying to cause problems in his marriage.
Finn let Deacon know that problems would arise if he agreed to go and be the best man. He declared that cannot go to the wedding and he's happy for Deacon especially that he is giving his mother "hope for a better and brighter future." Deacon was not happy to hear Finn decline and brought up Sheila, asking Finn if he thought about how she would feel about his decision.
Sheila was in the background listening to the two's conversation. As Finn noticed her, he apologized to her reiteratin.
