Turns out there are plenty of places in Australia and New Zealand that boast a lot to do, without needing to spend a cent, with travellers confirming they're not a dud. After looking at what's on offer at popular tourist destinations, CashNetUSA has analysed traveller reviews and availability to compile a list of the top ten best places for quality free attractions. And there are two Aussie states that really stand out.

Kicking things off across the ditch, in Wellington, New Zealand, 69 per cent of free attractions have an average rating of 4.5 stars or more. At the top of the list of free spots to visit in the capital of New Zealand is the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa , which features exhibits covering the vast history of the islands, its peoples and its environment.

 New Zealand's capital city actually takes the crown when it comes to overall availability of free things to do – 9.01 per cent of its attractions don't cost anything. Another great New Zealand spot if you're on a tight budget is Christchurch.

Here, 70.59 per cent of free attractions have an average rating of 4.5 stars or more, with just over six per cent of attractions costing nothing.
