Wylfa will house a large-scale nuclear power plant. (Image: Getty) The North Wales island of Anglesey has been chosen as the preferred site for a large-scale new nuclear power plant , according to the UK government. Wylfa is expected to provide enough clean power to 6 million homes over 60 years , in line with Britain’s target of generating a quarter of its electricity from homegrown nuclear power by 2050.

Nuclear power currently generates 15 percent of the UK’s electricity needs. “Anglesey has a proud nuclear history and it is only right that, once again, it can play a central role in boosting the UK's energy security”, Energy Security Secretary Claire Coutinho said. "Wylfa would not only bring clean, reliable power to millions of homes - it could create thousands of well-paid jobs and bring investment to the whole of North Wales .

" Local officials were pleased but remained cautious about the project. function loadOvpScript(){let el=document.createElement('script');el.
