TernoCon celebrates Philippine independence, fashion, and culture at SM Mall of Asia
ATTENDEES stepped into a world where tradition intertwines with modern elegance at "TernoCon: Kasarinlan, Kultura, Kasuotan." (Independence, Culture, Clothing) This landmark event at the Museo del Galeón, SM Mall of Asia on June 10, 2024 showcased an unparalleled celebration of Philippine independence, curated by the visionary talents of Jojie Lloren, Cary Santiago and Jaggy Glarino. Continuing the legacy of 2023's Paskong TernoCon at SM Aura, the collaboration between SM Supermalls, Bench / lifestyle + clothing, and the Cultural Center of the Philippines brought a fresh narrative to Filipino cultural celebrations. The event was also attended by Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Vice Chairman Carissa Coscolluela, CCP President Kaye Tinga, Bench/Lifestyle + clothing founder Ben Chan, First Lady of the Philippines Marie Louise "Liza" Araneta Marcos, SM Markets Chairman Herbert Sy, CCP Vice Chairman Margie Moran, Suyen Corporation President Virgilio Lim and SM Supermalls' President Steven Tan.Jojie Lloren: A lullaby for my mother Jesus "Jojie" Lloren — a paragon of minimalist design and masterful tailoring, brought a deeply personal touch to his collection, "A lullaby for my mother."Comprising 12 exquisitely crafted ternos, this collection honored both his mother and the motherland, reflecting Lloren's commitment to preserve and elevate Filipino culture through fashion. Filipiniana's with a spin, his designs are unique for its symbolism and style.Lloren's designs showcased by television personality Maine Mendoza and model Jo Ann Bitagcol, among others.Cary Santiago: Ikonograpiya Cary Santiago — a name synonymous with intricate and sculptural design — unveiled "Ikonograpiya," a vibrant collection inspired by the Philippine flag and iconic national symbols such as the Sampaguita, mango, jeepney and sorbetes (dirty ice cream).Santiago's 12 ternos are a vivid celebration of Filipino pride, embodying the essence of the nation's identity with each meticulously detailed piece. His designs emanate vibrant colors and possess flowy fabrics that are ethereal.Miss Universe Philippines 2023 Michelle Dee stood as the muse of Santiago's designs.Jaggy Glarino: Lemlunay Known for his avant-garde and nonconformist approach, Jaggy Glarino presented "Lemlunay," a collection that drew on the rich cultural heritage of Mindanao.Featuring nine ternos and three barongs, Glarino's creations are a dynamic fusion of past and present, showcasing his ability to reinterpret traditional motifs with a contemporary twist. His designs are sophisticated and elegant, combining the traditional Filipino garments with the sophistication of modern couture.Marina Benipayo was one of Glarino's muses at Ternocon. This exhibit offered an immersive experience, celebrating the diverse cultural icons and traditions that define the Philippines.
