Thursday, May 30, 2024 The Taiwan Tourism Administration’s Kuala Lumpur Office has broadened its promotional efforts in Malaysia over the past few years. Initially focusing on local Chinese communities, it has now expanded to target over 60% of Malaysia’s Muslim population. Through guidance and support, numerous hotels, restaurants, and shops across Taiwan have become certified as Muslim-friendly, presenting a compelling case for promoting Taiwan as a preferred destination for Muslim tourists in Malaysia.

In 2024, the inaugural Salam Taiwan Travel Fair took place in a shopping mall, exclusively showcasing Muslim-friendly travel packages to Taiwan. Held at IOI City Mall Putrajaya from May 29th to June 2nd, coinciding with the local week-long summer holiday period, the fair aimed to introduce Taiwan as an ideal Muslim-friendly destination during the festive season. The event welcomed 12 local travel agencies, showcasing and selling Muslim-friendly travel packages on-site, alongside exclusive discounts and gifts for onsite purchases provided by the Tourism Bureau’s Kuala Lumpur office.

The first 200 attendees also received gift cards from Taiwan’s FamilyMart convenience stores, which have been introducing Muslim-friendly products and food options since the previous year, emphasizing Taiwan’s readiness to cater to Muslim travelers. Beyond travel packages, the fair featured engaging activities such as a photo opportunity with the famous Alishan train and Taiwanese night .
