Sydney-based radio hosts Ryan “Fitzy” Fitzgerald and Michael “Wippa” Wipfli have been inadvertently caught up in a Netflix documentary for their part in the controversy surrounding a dating website which promotes adultery. The three-part series — titled Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal — chronicles the rise and fall of the Ashley Madison online dating platform which gained notoriety for telling users, “Life is short. Have an affair”.
Following a major data breach which exposed the “darkest desires, shameful betrayals and sexual secrets” of some 37 million Ashley Madison customers in 2015, celebrities and Christian devotees alike became victims of the public’s wrath. Fitzy & Wippa’s radio show provided a platform to wives who suspected their husbands had signed up to the website with the intention of cheating, offering to reveal live on air whether the accused husbands’ email addresses appeared on a registry of leaked users.
A controversial clip from the documentary noted the segment as the furthest global media’s “witchhunt” would go to reveal home truths. While not naming the duo explicitly, their familiar voices are easily recognisable to local listeners. “Alright now Jo, you’ve rung us, you’re a little bit suspicious about your partner?” Fitzy said on air.
