Sunday, June 9, 2024 I embark on a pivotal journey to Singapore to sign three landmark Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) agreements and lead a delegation of senior Australian investors overseeing over $2 trillion in assets. This marks the inaugural Investment Mission under Australia’s Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040. I will collaborate with IPEF ministers to sign the IPEF Fair Economy Agreement, the IPEF Overarching Agreement, and the IPEF Clean Economy Agreement.
These agreements, alongside the previously signed IPEF Supply Chain Agreement, aim to boost investment, fortify economic ties, and support the region’s transition to net-zero. Singapore stands as one of Australia’s closest allies, and I eagerly anticipate meetings with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong. I will also meet with US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo and participate in the third annual Australia-US Strategic Commercial Dialogue.
At the inaugural IPEF Clean Economy Investor Forum, I will address 300 of the region’s leading investors and entrepreneurs, advocating for increased two-way investment to develop new clean energy industries for the future. Additionally, I will launch the Singapore Deal Teams Hub, dedicated to identifying a pipeline of investment-ready projects for Australian investors in the region. As a bloc, Southeast Asia is projected to become the world’s fourth-la.
