Signing off after his last W-SR School Board meeting, Superintendent Ed Klamfoth ended the June 10 public meeting with thanks. His usual shirt-and-jacket attire was missing and replaced with what might become his trademark Hawaiian shirt, a gift from board members. The Board meeting proceeded in regular fashion with discussion of policy issues, construction updates and changes orders, and a report on proposed bus routes from W-SR Transportation Director Izaak Miller.

The three-hour meeting ended on a humorous note thanks to Klamfoth’s reveal of a very funny t-shirt beneath that Hawaiian shirt. ‘Leave them laughing’ is sound advice. This meeting, like many others, was attended by incoming Superintendent David Hill.

Miller presented a complex schedule of departures and arrivals designed to increase safety and reduce student transfers from one bus to another. Miller said there will be no big changes in route pick-up times. “Other loading areas will be used, with only high school students loading at the high school.

We will have about 150 more students riding the bus this year, but no students will have longer bus times than before,” Miller explained in his 30-minute presentation. At this time, the new elementary schools do not have safe bicycle and walk routes. Communication with parents about bus schedules will begin in July.

Parent cooperation and patience are requested. “At the Middle School, for safety reasons, we work to separate bus traffic and parent traffic,�.
