The Nabasovi District School students of Koro, Lomaiviti were excited to participate in their annual school-based camp last week. The students who had prepared for the camp for over a week finally got together to experience some vital life skills. Nabasovi District School head of school, Akanisi Rusaqoli Nailatinidaveta said there were extracurricular activity carried out as part of the program this year.

Ms Nailatinidaveta said teachers had designed the program for the weekend camp where the Scouts, cubs, Brownies, Girl Guides and Red Cross slept out in tents and engaged in various life skill activities. “The students had a welcome service done by the Vakatawa (lay pastor) at school to open the camp program,” she said. “The school ground was swarmed with parents and members of the community as they came to witness the march pass parade that was led by the school head boy, Jonacani Vuadreu – this followed the club flags raising ceremony which marked the opening of the three-day program.

” For the first time the Nabasovi District School’s camp was assisted by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces personnel. Ms Nailatinidaveta said the RFMF engineers were on the island constructing a village church. “I am thankful to them for accepting our invitation to be part of the school program.

“The engineers conducted activities that included techniques that promoted effective teamwork and leadership, basic first aid, emergency response, survival skills, physical fitness, d.
