Prayagraj: The results of 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the splendid performance of the Samajwadi Party (SP) in Uttar Pradesh has given many reasons for SP to celebrate, but the win from Kaushambi Lok Sabha seat has made their performance not only special but historical too. SP’s candidate from Kaushambi (reserved) seat, Pushpendra Saroj has created history by becoming the youngest candidate to win a Lok Sabha election to become a Member of Parliament. Born on March 01, 1999, Saroj is just 25 years, three months and three days old as on June 4, the date of announcement of results of LS elections.
Saroj has defeated his nearest rival and two times BJP MP from Kaushambi, Vinod Sonkar by a margin of over one lakh 32 thousand votes. Sonkar had won the seat in 2014 and 2019 general elections. Pushpendra is son of Indrajeet Saroj, the national general secretary of SP.
Indrajeet Saroj lost this seat to Sonkar in 2019. Shambhavi Choudhary, the NDA candidate from Samastipur Lok Sabha seat in north Bihar has also created history by becoming the country’s second youngest MP in Lok Sabha. Choudhary is 25 years and 11 months old.
Shambhavi is daughter of senior JD(U) minister in the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government Ashok Kumar Choudhary.
