Monday, May 27, 2024 SpiceJet is an Indian low-cost airline headquartered in Gurgaon, Haryana. As of November 2023, it is the fourth largest airline in India by number of domestic passengers carried, with a market share of 6.2% and connects 73 destinations, including 60 Indian and 13 international from its bases at Delhi and Hyderabad.

On Monday, a division bench of the Delhi High Court upheld the previous ruling by a single judge, directing SpiceJet to return two aircraft and three engines to its lessor TWC Aviation. The bench, led by Justice Rajiv Shakhder, dismissed the airline’s appeal and granted a three-week extension, until June 17, for SpiceJet to comply with the order and return the aircraft and engines, along with their technical records. The single judge had initially instructed SpiceJet to return the engines by May 28.

Despite SpiceJet’s counsel, expressing a desire to present arguments regarding jurisdiction before the single judge, the court emphasized that this would not hinder the return of the engines as directed. He mentioned that he had personally spoken to the CEO, who requested a reasonable amount of time to organize the replacement of the engines..
